Anatomy of testicle

Can someone tell me whether the outside of the testicle should be totally smooth. I am going to have myself checked as I have a dull aching pain for the past week. Their also seems to be a very small hard lump on both testicles.....half the size of a grain of rice to be exact :-)).......it can cause some pain if i rub it on one of them. I was interested as this was on both testes. Is this part of the anatomy?
