View Full Version : Sick Again!
Hey all,
For the second time this month Josh is sick again with a flu virus. This time it is body aches, fever, and sore throat. He works with about 90 kids in a afterschool program. I think it's time for a flu shot!!!! Is his immune system still low after 6 mos post chemo??? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hello Jane. My husband is four months post chemo and had his check up yesterday and they basically told him to roll up his sleeve. He's never gotten a flu shot but did yesterday with no fuss or hesitation. They did this even though his preliminary wbc and rbc were fine. I would recommend it as I had a couple of bad bouts as a teenager with visits to the ER over the flu. After the second bad case I started getting mine and haven't stopped. Hope he gets to feeling better, around here after winter gets out the door we jump right into allergy season. April
Hi Jane.
I have 2 wonderfull daughters (age 3 and 5) and I go the the daycare every day. Now, 5 month post chemo I really don't pick up anything - out of the ordinary. And my bloodtests have shown normal white blood cells for approx. 3 month now.
Josh is very exposed though and eventhough his whites are up to level, his general condition is weaker than it used to be.
I'm still getting more tired than I used to and in general "out of shape" - which is very accurate (gained quite a few lbs).
My doc - who's been in this game for 30+ years - says that it takes a year or so to get back to normal.
Give it some time and nurse him well (i'm sure you do all the time).
It's still an agreeable outcome of a cancer disease. Almost all other types are so much more gruesome.
Best Wishes
Jens
