My Dad

I need to share the news that my father passed away this morning. He was 77 and in declining health after a 40+-year struggle with diabetes and a more recent neurological disease with symptoms similar to ALS. My family visited him on the day he was admitted to the hospital in Augusta, Maine, two Fridays ago with trouble breathing, irregular heartbeat, and confusion. Two days later he was moved to intensive care and has been sedated and on life support until this morning. Although I'll never know whether he knew I was there, I drove up again last Thursday. My mother and I decided I should still head to Austin for the Ride for the Roses Weekend.

I received the call from my sister while waiting in the airport for my flight home, letting me know that Dad passed away quickly and peacefully this morning, without regaining consciousness, in the presence of family.

Scott, I am so sorry to hear of your fathers passing. The loss of a dad is very painful. I lost my dad 10 years ago who also struggled with diabetes. They say time heals, I don't know if I believe that, but hopefully it will for you.

I am so sorry for your loss. My own father passed 3 years ago. After he passed, I was very suprised at the empty space I felt in my life. With time, the pictures in my mind of my father declining have faded and been replaced by the all of the good memories. I do miss him and think of him often, but I am comforted by the memories and seeing him in myself and even my kids, so his legacy definitely lives on, eventhough he is not with us any more.

Anyway, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. I hope you can find peace and the good memories, because your father lives on, in you.

i havent been around much and when my wife told me tonight i had to stop in. im sorry for your loss. my dad passed last july 5th. my dad was also my friend as im sure yours was to you. our thought and prayers are with and your family.
