Ok, so it has been just over a month since my Husbands Orchiectomy (he also recived an implant), he just finished his antibiotics about a week ago. about 3-4 days ago he started having pain/swelling in his testicle where the implant is. He waited until last night and went up to the hospital to have it looked at. He had an a small indent on the sack after the surgery and it is now leaking puss (gross I know sorry) They give him different antibiotics and told him to see his Urologist asap, as the implant is attaching it's self to the sack.
2 Q's
-do you think he will have to have it taken out?
-has anyone here ever experienced this?

I talked to the pharmacist today and he said if it wasn't feeling better tomorrow to go to the hospital to get antibiotics though IV.

EyesWideShut - I do not have an implant, however I also had a swelling and slight pain for ~2 - 3 weeks after surgery on the side they took the testicle out. The urologist said it was normal. He said it was some vessel or cord - I forget the word. And then it subsided. I did not have any pus coming out.

Have you seen pus come out from the sac, or are you guessing because it is swollen?

no I have seem pass coming out of the sack, it's like oozing out (gross!)
I am taking his into the city to go to the hospital where he is receiving treatment, hopefully we can get this fixed asap. He also said he is feeling 2 bumps in his groin area. Better to get this looked at asap!

I just hope he doesn't have to go though surgery again, he writes exams this week.

Definitely, be agressive in getting the infection treated. Go to the emergency room if necessary. The bumps in the groin are likely lymph nodes that are enalrged because of the infection.

I hope you get this cleared up quickly.

What a day :( We spent the whole day in emerg, Evan got IV antibiotics and they are keeping him over night to treat it also. The Urologist will be in in the morning. He is also getting an ultra sound done too. I think they might have to take the implant out.
I really don't know why I am having a hard time handling this. I am strong for him, but I cried all the way home (40 min drive) I feel so helpless. Because of my job and our daughter I can't go back in the morning to be with him. All I want to do is be with him. I will have to send someone to pick him up when he gets released. I wanna be there to ask questions and cheer him up. It hasn't really hit me until today. We have family near that can help, but I already feel like I have taken advantage of them, leaving our daughter with them all day. It also isn't fair to our daughter.
Thanks for listening

Sorry to hear Evan has to stay the night, but the important this is to get the infection cleared up. Hang in there, you're doing fine. Nothing wrong with a healthy cry every now and then. I'll bet your family does not think you're taking advantage of them. I know my wife and I would do anything to help our our family - no questions asked.

This is a great place to vent. We're always willing to listen. Here's hoping tomorrow is a better day than today.

Take care.

They will be keeping Evan the whole week now :( They want to keep an eye on this infection and if doesn't clear up they will be taking the implant out. This would be so much of a problem if the hospital wasn't 40min-1hour away!!! W also have a winter storm starting this afternoon :( I have to go there this afternoon to meet the oncologist. Wish me luck!

My experience is much like your husband's. The hole developed two weeks after the surgery. It was the size of a pencil eraser and would seep for 3-4 days (ew!) and developed pus (double ew!). I ended up going to the emergency room, IV, ulrasound showed sacs of fluid/blood around the implant. This accounted for the massive swelling, redness. Antibiotics cleared up the minor infection, though I had no fever. This was 2 weeks after the implant surgery.
Six weeks after the surgery, I was stll heavily swollen, and the bleeding came back. Another trip to the ER. I joked that going to the emergency room was like a little vacation, a little gift.
Humor has really helped me put the surreal waking nightmare in perpective.
A second ultra sound looked much better than the first; the sacs of fluid had either absorbed into my body (or my underwear), the right testical was fine too. This was a relief, because the scariest thing for me right now is the thought of losing the other one. By now, the implant, which felt hard and sometimes cold, had changed its position. The sacs had moved it and it was settling down. Think of an egg, falling over on its side. Of course, it will have to come out.
I was wondering:
*if your husband kept the same surgeon;
*whether a urologist or a plastic surgeon performed the surgery;
*how he is doing now;
*how the second one looks, feels;
*if he knows how very fortunate he is to have such a brave, loving
partner through this.
I bet he does.
Steven, 44, San Francisco
Diagnosis: 4/20/07
Orchiectomy: 4/27/07
First implant: 1/7/08
Second implant: 3/11/08

P.S. This is my first blog in my whole life. I'm serious! I don't know how this works, but I welcome comment from everyone.

Hello and welcome to the world of forum/blogging! You will fin a lot of support and answers on here :) As for you questions:

*No he didn't have the same surgon to remove the implant, only because it was on a weekend and his reg urologist wasn't available. But he still went to see him 2 weeks post surgery.
*It was a Urologist that preformed the surgery.
*He has fully healed and regrets every having the implant.
*He never had a second one put in because his body rejected it the first time so they didn't want to risk another one. They had to get him cleared up before he started chemo.
*I sure hope he knows ;)

Did you have the second implant put in on the same side or was it for the other side? Did you receive any treatment after your I/O? Is the implant infected now?
