View Full Version : Update...
ok, its been 9 days! and Brian is getting very upset.. he was told he could go home today.. now sheinfeld says tomorrow.. hes soooo upset! :( they took out the staples.. he is still leaking ALOT and he will have to add packing to the wound and change the dressing twice a day when he comes home for a while too. other then the little set back, hes recovering well..
Dr. Bosl came in Friday... and said they werent finished with the final report yet, but he checked up on it and they said they are 95% sure there is no cancer in what they removed.. that is good, right?? i am just so anxious..... im scared that they will find something in the remaining 5%.... and interesting! his testicle was teratoma.. its weird because the cancer started there.. so, i should be happy about this?? i want a final report!!! :o

Dawn,
I know he really wants to go home, but I promise you Dr. S is just doing what is best for him. You don't want to get him home and then feel nervous that you need the supoprt of the hospital staff. They know best, just try and put your trust in them
Love,
m
I know it gets really annoying having to stay in the hospital, but some times it is for the best. I had a jp drain in for almost 2 weeks after my incisional hernia repair, some days I would get almost a liter of fluid; it does not sound like the leaking is anything to worry about.
I wouldn't worry too much about that last 5%, nothing is life is every 100%.
I hope Brian can get home soon.
ANOTHER QUESTION.....
when teratoma is resected, even though its benign... is it still considered cancer being removed??

Hey Dawn,
I haven't gotten to your PM'd question yet... I'll reply later when I get out of work (I'm swamped right now). This one, though, I can answer quickly. In males, teratomas are always deemed malignant.

SO THAT MEANS, THEY RESECTED LIVE CANCER??
SO THAT MEANS, THEY RESECTED LIVE CANCER??
Teratomas belong to a class of tumors known as nonseminomatous germ cell tumor (NSGCT).
In other words his Testicular Tumor was Non-Seminoma (a general classification for any TC that isn't Seminoma). Women can get Teratomas as well, and they can be benign. Mine was Seminoma. They said at this point they were 95% sure there was no live cancer. That would mean either "dead" Teratoma in the lymph nodes, or normal lymph nodes. Take a deep breath. :)
Much Love,
Mark

Dawn -
I know - I REALLY know - how frustrating it is to want Brian home and they say, one more day, one more day. Trust me, it is better that he stay put and be monitored. You said his surgery was seven hours... and it was a major surgery. The hospital gets boring, the patient gets restless, but Brian is in the right place and as its been mentioned, Sheinfeld is an extra cautious guy. Rob was in the hospital for 22 days!!
What he has sounds really uncomfortable. Glad that it happened at Sloan instead of at home, though.
That darn pathology seems to take forever, doesn't it??
