View Full Version : after the Orchiectomy
I had a left Orchiectomy on 12/21. The pain was not to bad, but I am now having not pain but a numb/tender feeling. Is this normal. I am assuming its from nerves coming back. Does anyone know how long this will last?
Hey dude,
The pain is quite normal. The soreness can last anywhere between a few weeks to several months. Despite being a simple surgery, the I/O involves cutting through muscle, connective tissue and nerves. In particular, the nerve re-growth is what causes the most pain. It's different for everybody, but rest assured it will go away. You may also get phantom pains, as well. They are also par for the course.
Paul the feeling is coming from the below the scar, it seems it would have been along the path the Dr. passed through. Its not a pain just a tender, almost numb feeling.
That what I thought , just wanted to check with others. Thanks again. Maybe we'll meet up at St Patricks in Newport, I have been going down there for that for the last few years.

Just to throw in my $.02: My I/O (from Jan 2nd) incision area is numb, and it has a hard, raised 'bump' that spans the length of the scar, which looks almost like a hernia.
Actually, that bump concerned me a bit, as the last thing I wanted was to deal with repairing a hernia after the I/O! After activity, the bump swells up a bit, too... ice brings it back down... and a couple beers help the pain ;)
Thanks Greg, my scar is numb. I was just checking on the numbness about an inch down and to the right, around the base of my man parts. I am sure its all normal. ed
