View Full Version : After Cancer
Just a quick question that I am not sure any one will be able to answer. I had testicular cancer, and I have been free of treatment for almost 3 years. I have always wanted a career in the Military, and was wonder if I would be able to join with this history. The branch I am looking into is the Army. Has anyone here joined the Army after being treated for testicular cancer? Do you know how difficult it is to do this? I would go and talk to a recruiter, but I do not want to join up yet, I want to finish school first, so I dont want to bother them until I am ready to sign. Thanks for reading.
I think I recall one of our other members posting that the military would not consider him until he had been cancer free for two year. The only way to know for sure is to ask a recruiter directly. Best wishes.

I believe Jason (Jay68442) was turned down after he had applied because of his TC when he was in High School. Can't remember what happened afterwards, but perhaps you can PM him about it??
it'd make sense that they would want to see you cancer free for a bit...but after that...should be fine...I seem to recall some guy winning the tour de france a few times after TC....

I see many of us here are interested in joining the army. I am too, I've been looking into joining the armed forces here in Jordan. I think it's been two years now so hopefully they won't turn me down. I haven't been able to focus enough on studies and all jobs here are way too difficult to get without a diploma so I want to apply. Let me know how it goes, I'll update as well.
All the best,
J
Thanks everyone for the replies! I did some more research and found some things that seemed to say 2 yrs and others that sounded like 5. So I took your advice and went and spoke to the local recruiter today. He was very helpful and I am in the process of obtaining my medical records so that their physicians can have a look. Basically what he told me was that he was unsure of the wait time, so he called one the the physicians. They told him that they would have to look at my records and go from there. I got the impression that this was what they say for pretty much every medical condition.
So I will let you all know what they tell me. I am trying to not get too excited because I have a feeling it will be 5 yrs. But who knows. Thanks again for your replies, sorry it took so long to respond.
