its been a yr since i had my surgery. i still have soreness under my incision. and the area on my thighs where it meet the groin is still numb and feels weird. i dont think it has improved at all during the last 12 months.
before the surgery he told me that there might be some numbness but it will go away after about 3 months.
so i saw the doctor after 3 months for my first check up after the surgery. . he told me that the numbness and soreness goes away after about 6 months. the next time (3 months after) he told me that it will take up to a year for it to go away. and now 3 months ago he told me that it might take up to 1.5 yrs or it might never go away. and i have to live with it forever.
i think the soreness under the incision has improved alittle bit over the last yr but the numbness on the thigh is almost the same. it feels weird when i touch that area.
does anyone have any numbness after the first yr?

i decided to go with radiation therapy. 5 days a week for 3 weeks. i dont have any problem other than the numbness and soreness. it really frustrate me. the numb area feels the same as the first day. i think im gonna see another urologist but i guess the damage is already done. so not much i can do.
this doctor is acting like he saved my life.

I also have numbness, no pain or soreness though. after 6 months I have been told the same as you, that it will go away, but while it has improved it has not gone. Also my chemo could be affecting it. Its caused by the nerves which are somtimes cut during the surgery. I have been told if they regrow it takes a long time or they might just not regrow.
After my first op 7 years ago I would often get some pain around the incission and down in to the groin area, it would come and go a bit.
With my recent op for the second tc I discussed this with the Urologist and he mentioned that there was sometimes a nerve that could cause this that was close to the incission and he was going to check it out with the second op. Since the op I have kept forgetting to ask him about this but in the recent weeks since the op I have not experienced the same type of pain.
Cheers

what im pissed off is the ****ing doctor told me the numbness will go away after 2-3 months. its been 12 months and still the same. with any activity, the area gets sore.
Maybe the next time you see the doc ask them if a nerve could be the problem, my Uroloigist did give it a name but I cannot remember what it was.
If you are not confortable with the doctor consider looking for one that you are comfortale with.
All ops and people will have different experiences and having had a second op this recent one has been a lot different to my first.

I just hit my year mark earlier this month and I still have numbness in the general area. This acts as a constant reminder every time I shower. As for soreness I would say that I get sharp pains every once and awhile that I Contribute to nerves trying to fire up again. If I run my fingernail across the are it feels like pins pricks in my skin.
It still feels uncomfortable and I get some slight pain when someone pushes on the area or if my girlfriend sits on my lap with her weight towards that side.
I was told by my doctor at the time of surgery that I may never get feeling back in the area.
But definitely talk to your doctor. I will ask mine next time I see him. I am in search for a new one because my current one does not listen and the radiology department at the hospital that he practices is in my opinion sub par.

I still have some numbness/tingling in my legs and I am a little over a year. It really only started within the last couple of months and at my anual physical the Dr. thought that it might just be a physical manefestation of the stress. It drives me crazy, but I find that I take some comfort in that the pain/tingling/numbness varries in severity, type of sensation and location. I don't know if that means anything, but as long as the tests keep comming back all clear I will find a way to deal with it.
This brings me to a question that I hesitate to ask because everyone is different, but alas, I shall ask it. Has anyone had the cancer return in their leg and if so what does it feel like? If this is an inappropriate question please delete it as I don't want to cause any harm by asking it, but it is part of what is driving me nuts.
