Forum family,
Well, after months of discomfort with my right prosthetic, I'm scheduled for surgery later this month to get it repositioned in the hopes that it will sit better. The procedure should be quick and I'm actually looking forward to having a scalpel taken to my privates yet again, at least so I can put this chapter of my TC saga behind me. So wish me luck and for anyone who's pondering prosthetics, just keep in mind that the wax fruit (as I affectionately call them) don't always work out perfectly on the first try.

Good luck to you Alex. I hope all goes well and your alignment is good. And if the doctors can't get it right you could always try a tire place. :D Sorry for the bad joke but I had too.

Hi Alex

How many months have you had them? I seem to recall that you might have said that the doc put the right one in via the scrotum? Both of mine when through the abdomen with the right one slicing trough my first mark from 7 years ago, my Uro said that he would fairly much not cut the scrotum area unless there was an extreme requirement.

Its my left that is not all that loose but it is improving with the massaging he’s got me doing. I really put this down to the additional trauma / swelling at the same time of having the left one extracted. But then yours seems the reverse to your situation.

When I discussed the prosthetics with the URO models, sizes I did ask if there was a model that could vibrate as I thought that could be some fun, but sadly they are not produced:confused:. Fortunately my URO does have a sense of humor:D.

Hope all goes well this time.

Cheers

Kiwi,
This past Saturday marked six months since my second IO. At the time of the IO, the urologist attempted to make an incision just below the twelve-year-old right IO incision but told my partner post-surgery that there was too much scar tissue build-up from the old incision, thus leading him to make what the surgery report calls a hemiscrotal incision. This time, he told me he's going to have to go for "virgin" territory (now that's a laugh!) but promised the incision will be small and the procedure very fast.
Basically, he needs to re-anchor the implant in a more comfortable and natural position. I think - and the doc agrees - much of this stems from the fact that after twelve years, the scrotal skin on that side had retracted to such an extent that it was difficult for him to find just the right anchor point for the implant, the result being that the implant settled into a position that proved very uncomfortable for me. All this shows is that it's not altogether straightforward getting prosthetics to mimic what has been lost that easily, particularly when a lot of time has passed. Some guys have even had theirs removed, something I was starting to consider but will give this a try.
Incidentally, I know what you mean about the prosthetics inserted inguinally. My left one, which was installed through the inguinal canal, sits a little high and was rather stubborn at first but I've "played" with it (I have a new toy!) to get the tissues to relax a bit. I'll close by saying that for us TC2 guys, prosthetics do help to feel normal, whatever normal means now. It's one thing to go through life with one testicle but quite another to have nothing. It may seem superficial to some but for me has gone a long way to reclaiming some sense of completeness. Hopefully this procedure will help.

Shoot...maybe the 2009 models are out now and you can get an upgrade!

Interest rates are down...:p

Good luck with the procedure, I hope it sets in there just perfect.

But really, you don't want it tooooo perfect, cuz you need to have a good reason to play a little pocket pool.

Hope you get some relief, Alex.

Maybe you could ask the doc to use a prosthetic that squeaks when you squeeze it. Give you something to amuse yourself with at work ;)

I was thinking the same thing, Russ. I guess that means I'm every bit as sick in the head as you are. I just hide it better. :D
Actually, implants not being considered lifetime replacements (they do carry a risk of extrusion or rupture  ) and with hopefully someday the FDA approving the more natural-feeling silicone implants for wide availability in the US, I figured down the road I could always "upgrade" - to borrow Boyce's phrase - to the silicone ones. Maybe they'll come in a glow-in-the dark version. Wait, that would mean they would always be glowing. Forget that.
Anyway, thanks for the good thoughts, guys. Surgery is scheduled for the 23rd so hopefully I'll have good news to report and will no longer have to spend so much time readjusting in a frustrating effort to get comfortable. It's getting embarrassing. It's good that I can sort of laugh about all this now - I wasn't in a laughing mood six months ago.

Hey Alex

Thanks for the info –

f.y.i I don’t think that I had experienced shrinkage in the scrotal area like you and that was after 7 years for me.

The guys used down in oz are the silicone ones, I got the ones from these manufacturers. http://www.promedon.com/promedon/index/module,text_seccion/code,cance11/title,cancer/

Don’t think they have the silicone in the US due to the probs a few years ago with the Breast Implants but the info given to me said that they were different to the Breast implants and it was very rare that there was a problem and my Uro had used these for a quite a long time without any problems. The US does seem to proceed with extra red tape or caution , that also goes for the Reandron Testo injections that are 12 weekly cycles that I have access to.

The silicone do feel firmer in texture than what I what I recall when they were out but will ask to handle the samples again when I next see the Uro – but that is not too Jan. The Uro said that in his opinion these were the most natural feeling ones – guess he gets to feel a few. ;)

For me too it was a must that I get some replacement for my second loss – so I understand perfectly what you are saying there, I am 100% sure that they helped with my mental well being.

Maybe we could lobby for some fun ones – glowing or light up ones as suggested above could be cool.:D

Cheers

Thanks, folks! Coincidentally, I was at my Toyota dealership getting my vehicle serviced (including tire rotation) first thing this morning as well, Karen. I'm apprehensive of the post-op recovery (scrotal incisions are not fun!) but hopeful this will do the trick. I'm anxious to start training to run the 5K next year so the sooner I recover, the better.

Alex dear, how did the "wax fruit" turn out? :D Probably still swollen so give yourself a few days and I'll ask again then. Seriously, how are you doing? Having just watched Andy go through the healing process with his scrotal incision, you know I'm getting pretty good with the "sympathy pains" - despite not having the, um...fruit basket ;) I know that the sac is very, very sensitive. Wishing for your speedy recovery...I'm sure Sean's doing a great job taking care of you!

I'm surprised it's not hurting more - the incision, that is - given my experience from last time. I haven't worked up the courage to explore down there yet to see just what should be hurting although the doc had mentioned that he'd be doing an incision "higher up" so perhaps he was able to avoid the scrotum itself. It's all very nerve-rich tissue down there, after all. When talking to women, I liken an incision in those nether regions to an episiotomy, which usually prompts this reaction:

Well, I looked and I didn't see that, Russ. Instead, there's a nice set of fresh sutures and lots of swelling. I know the implant's in there somewhere but it will be a few days before I can find it. If this keeps up, my scrotum will resemble Frankenstein's monster's. I guess my dream of being a porn star someday is quite dead unless somebody knows of a really good makeup artist.

Family,

I had my post-op follow-up with my urologist last night and it looks like the surgery accomplished our goal of getting that fruit hanging (actually anchored) properly. I just had to share how funny it was when the doctor came into the exam room with a look of anticipation and asked how I was feeling and said "OK, let's take a look." He seemed genuinely proud of his workmanship, which was more than a little funny/embarrassing. The incision still hurts (much less than at first) and there is still swelling but the prosthesis finally sits right and I can look forward to no longer constantly needing to readjust myself in public (I was starting to get stares). I left the doc thanking him again for catching my TC number 2 when he did. So it looks like no more scalpels near my genitals for the foreseeable future (hopefully forever). Funny how things like that can make a guy happy.

Hey there,

There is no need for you to justify the prosthetic to this crowd! Whatever makes you comfortable and happy is what you need to do for yourself. I hope that the issue is resolved now, and you can keep the sharp instruments away from there from now on.:)

This got me thinking about the night I was away on Business and the hotel had a Travelers table where you could dine with other business people, anyway one of the girls got talking about her recent enhancements and then flashed them out  Guess that would be a real conversation stopper if we did a similar thing:confused:.

LOL! Particularly in my case as my stitches haven't yet completely dissolved: I'd expect to hear screams of horror and see people fainting. But at least, once I get back to working out regularly, I can invest in a pair of Speedos to show off my plastic saline-filled accessories. I joke! I would never do that in the US - everyone here wears swim trunks clear down to their knees. Now were I to go back home to Brazil, hmmm, I just might. There, the tighter and more revealing, the better :D

Kiwi

Speedos known locally as 'dick pointers' or 'budgie smugglers' - you could visit the Gold or Sunshine Coasts in Queensland Australia where there are regular sight and common uniform of the life guards. Well at least they add filling to your daks.

Cheers and have fun!:):)
