Hi everyone (especially Brits).

I've just been looking through various cancer websites to find fund-raising events to take part in. Then I thought it would be great if a few of us could do the same event! Is anyone up for it? These are the ones that caught my eye:

CRUK's Run for Moore (5K run like the race for life, but for men only): London (http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/runformoore/venues/blackheath/); Bristol (http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/runformoore/venues/bristol/), or Oxford (http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/runformoore/venues/oxford/).

Everyman's Keep Your Eve on the Ball 5K run in London (http://www.keepyoureyeontheball.org/5KRun/KeepYourEyeOnTheBall5Kresults.html)

Others I have checked, but couldn't see anything suitable include Orchid (http://www.orchid-cancer.org.uk/Events), LoveHopeStrength (http://www.lovehopestrength.co.uk/), and Teenage Cancer Trust (https://www.teenagecancertrust.org/articles/event-list.php).

So, is anyone up for it, and if so which event do you prefer? The Everyman one is exclusively for male cancers, whereas the Run for Moore is for bowel cancer (which Bobby Moore died of), and has the advantage of having events at various venues (including one very close to my house!)

It would be brilliant if we could get a number of us together to do an event and raise some funds for cancer research! :)

I'm happy to get involved. I'm not fit enough at the moment, but with some more time at the Gym and on Wii Fit then I should be ok. The Bristol event would be best for me for obvious geographical reasons!

I'm up for it. I'm not in shape and overweight nearly 20kg. A great excuse to get into shape!

Looks like most of them are in summer so enough time to prepare.

Richard, Chris and Matt - I'm SO pleased you are up for it! It'll be brilliant for the British arm of tc-cancer.com to get together to do this.

I too am very unfit indeed. The last fundraising event I did was growing a moustache and that was tiring enough! Also I'm quite asthmatic! Hopefully, as the runs are only 5K, which is about three miles, I think, we could just walk it if necessary!

I favour the Bristol event too as it is close to me, but would be able to make others if necessary.

Really looking forward to it!:D

...... or even crawl around! Looks like the only one with a 2009 date so far is the Everyman run in London.

I'm willing to give it a go if I'm able to - my breathing problems are easing, so it looks promising. No preference for venue.

I encouraged friends, collegues, etc to donate to Macmillan or Cancer UK rather than send out Christmas cards - looks like around £450 was donated, so thanks to all who donated.

Gee, I thought all Brits were avid walkers:). The Livestrong Challenges includes a 5k walk/run for the non-bicyclers. My wife and I did the 5k walk last year in Philly, achy knees and all. Takes about an hour. Had a great time. My son and his friend ran it. As far as I'm concerned, the solidarity is the main thing and you'll probably find yourselves wanting to go round again.

I received this email from Everyman, yesterday:

Dear Runner,

Thank you for your interest in taking part in Everyman's 2009 Keep Your Eye On The Ball 5K run!

The 2009 race will once again be taking place in Victoria Park, and will include Everyman supporters and footballers alike, all running to raise awareness of male cancers and help fund our life saving research into testicular and prostate cancer.

The provisional date for next years event is Sunday the 7th of June. Nearer the time we will be sending you a full registration pack and all the information you will need to enter the 2009 race - so in the mean time all that's left to do is dig out your trainers and dust of those cobwebs and make a start on your training!!

Remember to pencil the 7th June in your diary, and I will look forward to meeting you on the day!

No word from CRUK about the Run for Moore dates yet, but they say they'll send an email update when dates are confirmed.

In other news, my brother is planning to join us for the run.

It'd be great to see you, Philly. I doubt any of us will run - you could walk with the rest of us!

(Great to see you on the forum!) :)

Looks like the Run for Moore dates and times are about to be announced. The London date is already confirmed:

Run for Moore 2009 will take place in:
Blackheath, London, on the 5th July

We're currently getting the website ready for 2009. If you're interested in taking part in Run for Moore, please register your interest and we'll send you some information.

Run for Moore 2009 will be open for entry on Monday 9th February. (http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/runformoore/)

Guys.

Just a quick update. I just called CRUK, and they say that the only Run for Moore event that has been confirmed so far is the Blackheath, London one on July 5. They say there is unlikely to be a run in Bristol this year but that it is likely that there will be runs in various places. I explained that a group of us from tc-cancer.com are waiting for news about the event, so they are going to call me as soon as they confirm other events. I'm also keeping an eye on their website, of course.

In addition to the Run for Moore event, Everyman have confirmed the 5K Keep Your Eye on the Ball event on 1 June in Victoria Park, London.

I guess we'll hang on till more events are confirmed before we decide which one to go for. I'll keep you posted.

Now that the snow has cleared, I'm starting my training this week! Blimey!

CRUK called today to let me know that there will definitely only be one Run for Moore this year (at Blackheath).

So we have a straight choice - the ICR Everyman run on 1st June or the Run for Moore on 5 July. Any preferences?

As you can see from my sig, I've now entered the Run for Moore.:)

At long last, I've started my training today. :)

The schedule is fairly gentle to start with. 30 seconds running followed by 30 seconds walking repeated fourteen times. The workload increases over eight weeks to 15 minutes running followed by one minute walking.

I'm feeling great after my first taste of training, and looking forward to my next session on Wednesday! Need to get some better running music on my iPod, though!

Just wanted to share some photos.

My brother Dave has decided to do the run with me, so I thought I'd share some photos of us preparing for the run (if wearing a t-shirt and posing in a comical way can be called "preparation"!)

If only I knew! Here I thought buying pairs of running shorts made me a runner. :D Seriously, though, you'll do wonderfully, Nick. We'll be cheering you on this side of the Atlantic.

Not if you have a treadmill in front of a TV set. ;)

We have a Wii Fit. :D

I've never used it though. :o

The one time I get on it, my Wii-me character instantly gained twenty pounds! (True!)

Thanks so much for all the generous sponsorship, guys. The run is on Sunday, and Dave and I are really looking to it!

With your help, Dave and I have raised about £700.00 ($1115.00). We are delighted by the generosity of our friends and family. Thank you.

The Run for Moore is in aid of research into bowel cancer - which killed our grandfather. I thought you might like to see a photo of Dave and I, taken during a training run, at the tree which we planted in the local park to remember him (shame Dave is only half in the photo!):
