Frank's last chemo treatment was 6 weeks ago, he is doing fine. He has returned to the gym as well. My question is this, during his chemo treatment he gained 30 pounds, but he has been unable to loose any of this weight now. He has changed his diet and has been going to the gym daily. He does 1 hour of cardio and 30mins of weights. Is there a reason that he is not loosing the extra weight, is this normal?

ps, he has some hair again. we are now beanie (hat) free. :D

Hey Jeanne,

Glad to hear Frank is doing fine and starting to regrow his hair. I know what it was like to wear a beanie constantly, almost seemed like an eternity. I had this same question about weight loss myself a few months ago. From the time of my I/O until the end of chemo, I packed on 20-25lbs. After I finished chemo I got back into the gym and starting training harder than I had ever before. I also began eating very healthy, but the results just wouldn't come. In the past I could cut weight very easily so I couldn't understand why I couldn't this time around. I had heard that chemo may slow metabolism, and also some guys told me that it may have something to do with T levels. However, after a few months of hard work the fat finally started to melt off (I am now 10 lbs lighter than I was prior to I/O). Just tell Frank to stick with it. It can be very frustrating at times, but it'll happen.

Best,

Damian

thanks Damian,

Frank will be glad to hear that he is not the only one going thru this weight change. He was so looking forward to dropping the weight after treatment. I will let him know that he is normal and the he should just keep on track.

Anthony wishes he had that problem :D

He was happy when he gained weight while doing chemo, but all of it came off after RPLND. He tries so hard to put weight on, but he really has to eat constantly to do it. I tell him he is built the way God wanted him to be.

Right now he is 6'3 and his weight stays right around 165 give or take a pound or two.

I highly doubt that chemo would have anything to do with you maintaining the weight, give it more time and keep doing what you're doing. :)

I gained about 20lbs after chemo which didn't come off until the RPLND. I know mine was because I gained my appetite back long before my stamina came back. I would give it some more time as 6 weeks isn't really that long of a time. He'll probably slowly make his way back to normal in time.
