Hi,

My husband just finished his 4 cycles of chemotherapy a few weeks ago. About 5-6 days ago he started experiencing itchy palms, then it went up to his arms. It was causing him some discomfort at first, and now it is very bodersome. Did anyone expereince this before? His Dr. said to try coritzone cream, it didnt help. I am going to call her today. Did anyone here experience this before? Pls. help. Thank you.

This might be chemo neuropathy, but it also sounds like "hives", the allergic reaction some people have to foods, plants, etc. Does he have any allergies? Been eating new foods? I suppose it's possible he may have developed an allergy from the chemo.

I had something like that happen, but it didn't happen until about 2 months after chemo. The only thing I found to work is Alertek which is odd because it isn't rated to work for itching it is suppose to only be for respiratory allergies. But I would talk to your doctor before trying anything

Have they been infusing him with decadron?

Thanks for your response.
I called his oncologist and she said to come in for labs. She wants to see if his liver enzymes are elevated.
So when u had to itching how many days did it last?

Thanks Paul for responding. He does not have any allergies and did not try any new foods. Like I said earlier, he is going to have some lab work to see if his enzymes are elevated. I'll keep you folks posted.

He use to take decadron by mouth during his chemo, but is not anymore. Does decadron cause itching?

Not cause, but might provide some relief. It is a steriod... I would suggest you call and explain. They may suggest prednizone?
I don't think you are dealing with neuropathy.

For me it actually hasn't completely stopped. When I talk the meds I don't seem to get it but if I stop it usually comes back in about 24-48 hours but it always starts with my palms and nuckles being itchy

Andy never took chemo, but the pain meds they were giving him caused severe itching. Benadryl seemed to do the trick. Good luck with the labs and here's hoping that they'll find something to soothe your husband.
