Life insurance after adjuvant therapy for 1 seminoma

    Hello friends,

I'm 36 and am nearly 1 year post diagnosis of seminoma stage 1. I had adjuvant carbo x1. All clear so far...

I was wondering if any one here has experience of getting life insurance in this situation? Any firms (in the UK) I should try first?

I'm not getting my hopes up, but I have 2 kids so I am keen on securing something for them if the worst were to happen.

    Thanks,
    A

    Mar 2011 Follow-up CT scan - clear.

I should say that I did have life insurance before I was diagnosed, but I claimed it because it was a combined critical illness / life insurance policy. It paid out, which was extremely helpful, but now I am looking for a new policy as I am uninsured (apart from my work pension, which includes a death in service lump sum).

    Thanks!

Can only go by my experience with travel insurance. It may well be best to wait until you are past the 1 year stage - maybe even 12 months after your carbo treatment. Rates are likely to be lower than if you apply now.

        Hi Apple.

Like you, I was insured with a critical illness policy which paid out when I was diagnosed.

At the time, I was told by my bank (HSBC) that they would not insure me for two years, and that after that time they would insure me, but would exclude all types of cancer from the policy.

My husband has told been told it doesn't make sense for him to apply until he is THREE WHOLE YEARS out from his last treatment. We've talked to several different insurance providers (U.S.), and they all pretty much agreed that there would be no point to applying until then. Of course, he had copious surgeries and 2 rounds of BEP, so that makes him higher risk. They did say, however, that once he was a few years out from this that TC should not make his rate skyrocket, since it's highly curable.

You may find you need to wait five years or be discharged to make it affordable.
Have you tried a financial advisor? I realise they are glorified salesman but this will be be a niche area. I have looked at the Orbis website which seems to offer this sort of thing.
Judging by my travel insurance experience don't expect it is cheap.

I managed to get life insurance 14 months after diagnosis (stage 1) at normal rate with no exclusion. Had 3 quotes £100, £110 and £9 per month. Guess which I went with. If you haven't got it sorted PM me and I'll give you more details.
