Texas Residents

Please note, if you are a resident of the state of Texas, and you do not have insurance, AND you cannot afford your treatment, MD Anderson Cancer Center can totally hook you up. If you do not have insurance, but you can afford SOME of your treatment, you can place a deposit, and they will set you up on a payment plan.

TEXAS RESIDENT: CANNOT AFFORD TREATMENT:
"If the cost of your care is beyond your financial means and you are a Texas resident, you may request an Application for Supplemental Financial Assistance from your Patient Access representative. Eligibility for Supplemental Financial Assistance is based on the Federal Poverty Index."

RESIDENT OR NOT/CAN AFFORD SOME OF YOUR TREATMENT:
"If you are not covered by insurance, your Patient Access representative will provide prior to treatment an estimate of the cost of your care. This estimate will include anticipated hospital, clinic, and physician charges, based on the recommended treatment plan. Please be aware that our estimate may vary from actual treatment cost due to a variety of factors. You are responsible for the full cost of your care.

All self-pay patients are asked to sign an agreement to pay for services received. You also will be asked to provide a deposit in advance covering the estimated cost of your treatment. If your estimate has been paid in full in advance, you may be eligible for a discount from the actual charges. For more information, please contact your Patient Access representative.

If your treatment plan changes during the course of your care, you may be asked to agree to a new estimate. You also may be asked to increase your deposit."

I recently participated in a cancer discussion group that had as a guest speaker a representative from Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at Morristown Memorial Hospital (located in Morristown, New Jersey) who described New Jersey's Cancer Education and Early Detection (NJCEED) Program (http://www.state.nj.us/health/cancer/njceed/index.shtml). This program provides free cancer diagnostic screening for very low-income individuals who cannot otherwise afford screening. The hospital has means, at least for the time being, of providing follow-up care in case of positive test results for some specific cancers on a case-by-case basis. The contact phone number at Morristown Memorial Hospital for inquiries about the program there is 973-971-6581 .

Does anyone know of any orgnizations that work in Florida. Frank no longer has Medicaid and he still needs to get his CT scan and chest x-ray done for the next 4 years.
