Testicular Cancer Society & TC-Cancer Forums

Over a decade ago TC-Cancer and the forums were started by a testicular cancer survivor and his buddy. For 10 plus years they have voluntarily maintained the site in concert with the critical support of the voluntary moderators. However, in recent months their ability to continue to provide the resources needed for the day-to-day operation of the site declined.

In July 2014 the Testicular Cancer Society enthusiastically agreed to assume responsibility for the site and the forums. This move was made in order to strengthen TC-Cancer by having it be supported by an organization instead of individuals.

Some of you may know me but for others, my name is Mike Craycraft and I am testicular cancer survivor and founder of the Testicular Cancer Society as well as a clinical pharmacist. I first came to the forums during my diagnosis in 2006 and have been a member since 2008. Although I never frequently posted, I have used the forums as a tool to find answers to help others and to find answers to my own questions for many years. I understand the importance of the forum and the power of collective knowledge they hold to help pave the road for future survivors and caregivers. I also realize how important it is to preserve the forums and to assure they will be here for those newly affected by the disease and for those whose disease has unfortunately returned. These reasons are why the Testicular Cancer Society became involved.

We have been aggressively trying to get the forums updated and the newest platform was installed about 10 days ago. We have also made minor changes like removing the Google ads, and updating the main site navigation so that is properly functioning in modern browsers. Besides that we are not looking at making any major changes, except for some minor content changes as we review the individual pages of the main site.

Like I mentioned before, I am very committed to ensuring these forums are a staple for the testicular cancer community for years to come. I have been referring people to here for years and do not see a reason that this should change.

If you do have any questions or concerns then please feel free to send me a private message, email me at mike[at]tc-cancer.com or call 513-696-9827 and I will address your needs the best I can.

    Thanks,
    Mike Craycraft

    Mike,

Things were better for a while for me, but I've started having issues again with server error messages while composing posts (the auto-save works for a while and then stops working, giving an error each time it tries). Additionally, when I've then gone on to post the reply, I get another error message, but the reply seems to still get shown in the thread.

Possibly related to these errors, or possibly independent of this, I've noticed that some threads seem to show incorrect details of last post in the forum overview. For instance the details of latest posts to JohanusEU's thread in the Post-Orchidectomy section appear different in the overall forum view vs. the section view, neither of which seem to show the latest post (for me, at least). Not urgent, but hope you can help resolve these niggles.

    Thanks,
    - T

    Hi Kiwi,

James has kind of stepped away but of course I hope that he finds the time to return. The other moderators are all still here too but I am taking the lead on any of the technical/platform issues. We have updated to the most recent version of vBulletin but there are always going to be some little bugs. If you notice something then feel free to send me a message on here or you can email me at mike@tc-cancer.com Obviously, the more details the better but I will take a look into it.

Also since the system was hacked and put back together - some things just don't seem to work (like trying to edit the above post), will things like that be getting a look at? also the system is often slooooowwwww to save posts.

    HI Mike

Is James still involved or has he past the reigns over to you?

Also since the system was hacked and put back together its not been the same - slow saving and somethings just don't work - will you be looking at these things?

    Hi Norman,

I can understand your frustration. I spent 18 years working in hospitals and there is nothing more frustrating than trying to do something to help someone yet your infrastructure prohibits you from doing your best.

I promise that we will do whatever we can to be attentive and get things corrected in a timely manner so please stick with us.

    Thanks Again,
    Mike

First off, thank you Mike for everything you do. Secondly, I have no PC filter so sometimes I come across very blunt. But it is in no way a reflection of how valuable this website is to me and everyone else that comes here for help and support. If I could sit on this site 24/7 to learn and help I would. It has gotten to the point that nothing works or it appears that way, and then there is no way of knowing what may or may not be going on behind the scenes. I just know Its frustrating to know end when you try and post and you get all kind of warning and alert messages.
Please continue to do amazing things to help those with TC.

    Norman Willis
