  • 5-Years All Clear!

Surveillance is over. I have reached the 5-year remission milestone! I've been waiting for this moment for a very long time-- 7 years, actually.

Thanks to everybody on this forum for all of the years of support. And for those still in their journey, keep your head up. I went from Stage 3 Seminoma to being cured. It took surgery, then radiation, then chemo, but I finally made it. Life after cancer exists.

    Best wishes to you all.

    Cheers,
    -Chris

Congrats!! You've been through a lot. I see you also had CML. Likely resulting from Etoposide...

Thanks! Yes, I have CML Leukemia because of the chemotherapy (I was one of the unlucky 1% that it actually happens to). But, thanks to modern medicine, all I do to control it is pop a pill everyday. So I feel pretty lucky! This targeted medicine only became available in 2001.

      I'm a happy fella!

WOW, congratulations RocknRoll, glad to hear that everything is moving in the right direction. I chose to do 3xBEP for the exact reason of avoiding prolonged Etoposide exposure. Wish you all the best!

Yeah, I chose 3xBEP but I had to change halfway to 4xEP because the Bleo had given me a little lung scarring. So I basically ended up having 4xEP plus 2 extra Bleo infusions.

Either way, I lived to talk about it!

            Thanks for the support, guys.

                Congrats.
I guess with chemo "cocktails" we literally get to "pick our poison" 3 x BEP and take on the lung risk or 4 x EP and take on more secondary cancer and cisplatin side effect risks.
The good news for us.....they both work well.
Cheers to your 5 year's all clear RockNRoll !

Thanks for all of the kind words, everybody! It's hard to believe that I was 27 years old when all of this first started (I actually felt symptoms a few months earlier at age 26, but a physical from a duty doctor didn't warrant any additional testing at the time).

Now I'm 33 (turning 34 in July) and it feels great to know that I survived and will live a pretty normal life now. I'm happy to be a surviving statistic.

                  Cheers!
