  • No cancer... but

I broke my tibia and fibula in a spiral fracture getting one last snowmobile ride in last week. Happened thursday afternoon, got brought to ER where they x-ray'd it and talked with an orthopedic surgeon. Surgery got scheduled friday morning so they put on a temporary cast for the night and I stayed the night at the hospital. Then Friday I had a couple screws and a rod put in, and a new cast put on. Stayed one more night in the hospital since i would have just got in the way at home (wife and I have a 3 year old and 1 year old). So came home Saturday from the hospital and now getting the hang of crutches. Thankfully pain has not been too bad, so I have been able to avoid most of the medication during the day, just taking one or two throughout the day and then one of the stronger ones at night so it doesn't ache while I sleep. in two weeks I get the hard cast removed and a removable boot placed. Then in 6 weeks I start physical therapy and introducing weight back on it. Right now i'm pretty useless around the house!

Was out snowmobiling. Here in the twin cities we got a heck of an april snowstorm last weekend. So even during the week last week there was still plenty of snow in the ditches so I went for a ride when it was about 50 degrees out!

I was playing on a drift. On probably the 4th or 5th time hitting it (hitting it slower and slower) I was a little off kilter and started falling sideways off the sled. No big deal. Except my foot was still stuck in my footwell. So as I fell I was twisting to the left, while my right foot was stationary. I could feel it pop and instantly hurt. Not fun! I'm already sick of sitting on the couch with my leg elevated crutching around.

Well, you'll likely heal up fine, & I would guess you are using the down time to figure out what went wrong & how to avoid that in the future. Sh!t happens, tends to make us better.

Yeah, it was more of a freak thing. I've ridden a huge number of miles on sleds and this won't really discourage me, although my wife may have different feelings! Definitely looking forward to healing up. each day is slightly better already.
