Any other teens here or parents of teens still high school here? My son is still not interested in sperm banking, but I suppose in your Junior year of HS it is not top priority.

There's no need for another scan before chemo. He should definitely do sperm banking. There is a relatively high chance he will lose his fertility.
Diagnosed at age 31. Treated in NYC. Now living in Ottawa, ON, Canada.

7/1/2015: felt tiny lump on side of R testicle
    7/30/2015: Ultrasound shows 2 intra-testicular masses.
7/31/2015: tumor markers normal, CXR clear
    8/5/2015: R orchiectomy
    8/11/2015: Pathology: 1.2 x 1.0 x 1.0 cm, embryonal 80%, seminoma 20%, with LVI and rete testis invasion
    8/14/2015: CT abdomen/pelvis clear, Stage 1b
    8/24/2015: started 1 x BEP

Thanks for answering. I will try to sway him, and so will his dad, but he has no interest probably due to his Autism.

My son was 18, just graduated high school when he got TC. He wasn't interested in banking but we convinced him it will matter in his future.

As the others have said the sperm banking should be a high priority, but no idea how you can convince him. Maybe get someone out of the family to help?

I had a scan a day before I started BEP but I wouldn't say it's required. Down to your oncologist I guess.

Thank you for replying, and for telling how to make a signature. Still not what I intended, but at least some info when I post.

Just a note on the sperm banking, whilst I highly encourage it, my oncologist said that if you went to the sperm bank after your I/O and before you start chemo and you are able to produce a decent sample, the chances are after BEPx3 you will still be fertile. So just because your son is doing BEPx3 doesn't mean he is likely to become infertile, but it is probably one of the most likely long term effects so sperm banking should always be done. Also, without sperm banking you'll never know how fertile he is in the first place.

I significant percentage of men who have TC are either infertile or subfertile to start with. I would, without question, sperm bank at this time. The priorities of a 17 year old are very different than when one is 27 or 37. He may very well want children.

Trekga - did you get him to bank? How is he doing now? I have a 15 year old, newly diagnosed, still in the staging process. He insists on banking though, as he wants so badly to be a daddy one day.

TC MOM~ Yes, if your son is interested than pursue NOW before your apptointments on the 31st.
No my son did not bank. He has Autism, and he says he has never masturbated, so the idea of doing so in a room, with magazines/movies in a cup, several times in one week stressed him out. His right spermatic cord was removed during RNPLD since it could not be spared during the post chemo surgery. So he will have to pursue other ways to father a child if indeed it he decides to later in life. He says he absolutely no drive now, but he told me today, he really did not have one prior to getting dx with TC. He has not had his testoserone tested yet.
