1 Cycle of Carboplatin, what to expect?

    Hey guys,
Just here for some clues of what to expect, really.
I had my right testis removed in April after I found a little lump (only 3mm) followed by my left one removed at the end of November (11mm this time!) Both done as radical orchdectomis.
After that I was advised they were both stage 1 Seminoma, and to be on the safe side I would need a 1 cycle carboplatin, been there today but I don't feel any different.
Will it hit me further down the line?
I'd like to hear if anyone else has been there, I'm also on testosterone injections at the moment after the Testogel did not do much. Anyone knows what to expect from this?
    Thanks guys!

Hey Favemaria76. Had 1 cycle of carboplatin with my first bout of TC back in 2013. Overall it wasn't really that bad. First 1-4 days I felt foggy headed from all the anti-nausea drugs they prescribed (which worked well for me, I was always hungry) and had some strange sleep cycles the first few days, probably from the steroid. Also, had some minor heartburn which was managed just fine with some over the counter drugs. Felt a little tired days 3-5, but other than that was back to work after two weeks. Only other weird thing I noticed is that when taking a car ride to higher elevations I noticed that I felt the altitude changes in my chest that I don't ever remember experiencing. Live in Northern California, so we did several trips to Tahoe that summer. Didn't prevent me from going or driving and once I was at my destination I had no problems. It did take a couple months from that to go away.

There are several people that have done a journal of their carbo experiences that are on this board, which were very helpful for me of what to expect. Of course everyone responds different to treatment so your experience will be unique to you. All the best of luck and hope you get over the bump in life quickly!

      Hey CC79,

Thanks for your message, I'm glad to know what I'm experiencing is normal.
I will have a look at other posts on this forum.
And yes my sleep seems to be affected too, as I'm up at 4 am! Lol
      Thanks again,

      Fabio

Hi. I had a single cycle of Carboplatin on 1st December.

Initially had a 'hangover' of sorts for 3-4 days but when I came off steroids I then 'crashed' with overwhelming tiredness for 2 days or so and then flu like symptoms.

The rest of the month I felt under the weather / out of sorts. Now, I'm just more tired than I'd otherwise expect to be.

Overall, not bad at all. I'm now back to running 25-30 miles a week. A struggle but I've been off running since mid Oct which will exacerbate any symptoms of the treatment.

The only other point of note, my neutrophil count has only just returned into the normal range but it's still significantly lower than pre treatment. It's being monitored.

        Good luck.

I have no experience with carboplatin.

I have been on Testim, Androgel, generic androgel (just called Testosterone Gel), & now self injections. For me Androgel worked better than Testim, generic androgel worked best (although my doc didn't like some of my high test #'s).

I had to switch to injections due to the work insurance policy being changed. The injections get the job done for the most part, toward the end of some cycles I notice a decreased libido & difficulty with sexual function, but not every cycle. My doc prefers testing mid-cycle & my numbers range from very low to high end of normal. No idea why it would vary that much.

I am on Testosterone Cypionate 200mg every 3 weeks.
