  • Enlarged groin lymph node 6 years after BEP

    Hi guys.
Back in 2013 I was diagnosed with stage IIIC. I had a left orchiectomy, 3xBEP, RPLND in 2014 and chest surgery in 2015.
Here I am, years later and at my annual check up today they said I’ve a growing lymph node in my groin.
My consultant told me they will need to remove it and see what it is.
If it’s teratoma then all is good, it’s just dead cancer.
    Otherwise I’ll need chemo.
Has this happened to anyone before?
I was in such shock I didn’t get to ask if it is possible this is a secondary cancer, is it lymphoma...
All I know is my tumour markers are normal and that there’s nothing suspicious on my remaining testicle or anywhere else.
    I hope someone knows something...
    Thanks guys

A groin relapse is pretty uncommon but those rates may be higher with pervious RPLND surgery as I am not familiar with those stats. How are your tumor markers? Are they thinking of doing a biopsy or just straight to a pelvic lymph node dissection? Did they say how large the node is?

Being so long after chemo, I think surgically removing it, if it is a testis cancer is probably the best approach as I think it may be a bit harder to treat with chemo than it was in 2014.

      Hi Mike,
Thanks for writing back. There were no tumour markers this time. They gave me an option of doing a PET but I said I was happy to have it removed straight away. I don't remember how big the node is only that they noticed it last year and now it has grown outside normal bounds.

I suppose that I would want to know pretty definitely that it was a possible metastasis before I underwent a pelvic lymph node dissection being this far out from your original treatments. If not discussed already I may ask about the appropriateness of having a biopsy maybe.

I like the idea of a needle biopsy if possible also but it may not be possible either. I think you should get all of your options and data laid out first before a major surgery decision is made.
