  • Confirmed I have Bleomycin Lung Toxicity

I finished BEPx4 on May 7th. About a week later I started having lung pain when breathing in deep and could not take a full deep breath. I had a CT ordered from Oncology that showed multiple ground glass opacities in multiple lung lobes.

It took me two weeks to see a Pulmonary specialist today. She confirmed there is practically no reason to have these lung findings and symptoms at my age with no risk factors other than recent Bleo and diagnosed me. I’m starting on Prednisone 60mg for a month then another CT.

Anyone else here have confirmed Bleo lung toxicity? If so how did it work out and do you have any long lasting effects?

That really sucks!! What does that mean for you? Is it manageable or can it be repaired?

My husband is on round 3 of BEPX3 and he has a dry cough. I guess we gotta keep an eye on that. Is lung toxicity manageable?

Unknown at this time. I’m on Prednisone now and not getting worse. After a month I’ll get another CT to check the progress.

Yeah for sure. It’s not common but does happen. They’ll be able to see lung damage on his post-chemo CT if there is any.

The outcome really varies with lung toxicity. Some people recover fully with steroids and some progress to respiratory failure and death. I’m not getting worse and my cough is improving, so I think death is unlikely for me. Hoping I don’t end up with permanent damage though.

Had a chest CT yesterday after a month on 60mg Prednisone. Fortunately the report stated the lung inflammation appears to be nearly all resolved.

Looks like I got lucky here getting on Prednisone quickly.
