    3 month check up tomorrow

hi! I haven't written in in a while. I hope everyone is well. My husband (30) was diagnosed on 4/13, surgery 4/14 and single dose carbo-platin on 5/7. He has stage 1b (? no spread- possible LVI) seminoma.

I'm so nervous right now and I know it's natural to feel this way. He's been doing great the past couple of months and we have attempted to kind of put this behind us mentally (except when someone asks how he is and I tear up- IS THAT NORMAL? He's been fine) Now, this check up just forces us back to reality. I was hoping to get some reassurance and hear some of your stories from your 1st 3 month check up. It's not common to have a reoccurrence, right? How likely is it?

He doesn't want me to go with him to get the CAT scan tomorrow. I think I make him more nervous unfortunately I think he'll be okay. Again, given the choice, yeah, he may have wished this never happened but I can tell you that we have learned so much over the past 3 months. We both realized what's important in life- it's not work, money, the house being clean...it's our relationship and we want to be together for as long as possible....and start a family soon. Anyway, I'm babbling. Please write back and let me know how you dealt with the 1st check up. I know I will still need to take an anti-anxiety pill to sleep tonight.

    Thanks!

Everything will be just fine. The odds are extremely heavily in his favor of the carbo having been the final cure. I would not worry. Good luck (more for sleeping tonight, as again, I have every confidence the CT will be just fine).
    Best,

    Zsolt

Please do not worry...everything will be perfectly fine. But I know how you feel...my case was somewhat similar to your husband's I had 1 round of carbo about 3 months ago...just last week I had my 3 month post chemo follow up and thank God...all was normal. CT scan clear and blood work normal...I'm sure it will be the same for your husband.

    Best,

It is perfectly normally to be worried. I always get a little anxious when I start thinking about my next check up, even though I know it is far more likely to be fine. I guess it is just fear of the unknown. Just remind yourself that there is a 99% chance he is prefectly fine. Those are good odds!!!! I like to remember how good it feels to walk out of my onco's office with an "all clear" and having a beer to celebrate

    You'll be fine.

Hi there Pat's Wife! It's nice to hear from you, and I wanted to assure you that your worry is perfectly normal...in fact, it would probably be strange if you didn't go into this first check-up without due concern. But, you need to tell yourself that this awful side effect of cancer, this fear that hits all of us (patient and caregiver alike) is NOT something that will take hold of your life. You will not let fear cheat you too.

P.S. You've already got your priorities straight from what you've written above. Your bond with Pat is all you need to get through this.

An ALL CLEAR you say? That's fantastic and we are all looking forward to many more of those! Take care.
