    Bloated on Chemo ?

    Hi guys,

I am undergoing 3 x BEP and am on my third week of my first cycle.

I have read a lot about how people on chemo lose a lot of weight although i have noticed that I am really bloated. Is this normal ?

I was pretty nauseas after the first 5 day cycle and craving steaks etc, but by the middle of week two I was back to eating realtively healthy and feeling ok.

Do you guys find the second cycle changes this or will I just be massive by the end of my third cycle ?

I am getting married in the beginning of december so I need to start hitting the gym hard if that is the case, I am only doing a bit of walking at the moment.

    Cheers,

Will, my son gained about 30 pounds while on 3 x BEP. I think a lot has to do with the steroids they give you. Also, along with drinking lots of water/fluids, you are probably reaching for comfort foods because you think they might make you feel better. My son's last chemo treatment was on the 29th of January. He was married on the 28th of May. He had his hair back and had lost the weight. Wait until you are done with the chemo before you start your diet program. Do not do anything to jeopardize your immune system. The biggest problem he had at the gym was running on the treadmill. He had neuropathy in his feet, and the balls of his feet just killed him. So don't be surprised if that happens to you. It lasted about four months. He was married in 2005 and has a beautiful little girl who will be two in October. Just hang in there and look to the future.

i suffered with bloating alot especially directly post my inpatient cycles, this gradualy went down. it didnt really worsen over the cycles but now on my third cycle unfortunately im still wanting to throw everything up within an hr of eating, this didnt happen before but i sure hope it clears soon!!

    my weight remained stable throughout.

i will also be hitting the gym asap!!

Hey there, I had a lot of bloating in the inaptient sessions, and I'm pretty sure its the steriods. In each inpatient session i put on 10 pounds! But by the end of the week the weight returned to normal again, as I said i think its the steriods and also the amount of fluid going in by IV.

Also I put on around 8 pounds more gradually throughout my two cycles due to inactivity and comfort eating. I also lost a LOT of muscle so the fat gain was more than 8 pounds. I have been back in the gym just less than a month and am putting the muscle back on pretty quick, however I'm struggling a bit to lose the fat, but im hoping that will drop off once i return to uni and have more of an active lifestyle again.

I gained a ton of weight man. Especially during the second half of the BEP because we figured that I needed over 2 liters of water a day through IV to stay healthy. Add that to the steroids and I looked like a damn marshmallow.

    Thumbs up

    Cheers guys,

Looks like I need to seriously organise a personal trainer.

I thought it was mostly fluid, but I've put on 3 kgs in the first cycle so it must be fat.

I was unbelievably boated during 3xBEP. I mean really, really bloated... and for some reason the bloated has subsided a bit now but it still has remained with me? I gained quite a bit of fat, probably around ~7 pounds or so... but it seems all of it has gone to my abdominal area (unfortunately). It also really seems that after chemo my metabolism has slowed right now, I can't find myself eating as much as before. Anyone have any thoughts?
