My experience at MSKCC was great; the staff was very professional and courteous. I had my RPLND and left orchiectomy and follow up.

My doctor was Dr Carver and was followed up by Dr Gatto during his daily rounds during my week long stay. Both very good doctors and very easy to talk to.

My recommendation is right after surgery is WALK, walk as many laps as you can and visit the 15th floor and get out on the balcony and enjoy the fresh air
    11/26/09 diagnosed Nonseminomas Stage II
    12/18/09 Started BEPx4
    3/9/10 Completed chemo
4/21/10 RPLND & Left Orchiectomy (Dr. Carver MSKCC)
5/1/10 Pathology report - All Clear (No residual viable tumor)

    Dr. Carver???

Interesting. The sample story on the Sloan Mem. Kett. website is one of a man names "FRANK." His Orchiectomy was done by Dr. Carver.

    How were the nurses?

    How was yer recovery?
    Okay? Long? Tiresome? Uneventful??

I was never treated at MSKCC but would probably go there if I still lived in Jersey. They are without a doubt one of the best places to fight cancer. Best wishes and prayers going your way.

    Paul,

From my time on the fifth floor, urology floor, at Sloan I can tell you the Doctors and Nurses on that floor are top notch. They are extremely friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about all that is going on. I spent time on a couple other floors briefly for other things at Sloan and while I was treated excellently, I found the fifth floor to be the best in my experience.

I wasn't operated on at Sloan but have been doing all my surveillance through them and count myself fortunate to have them close by and to have insurance that covers them. While they're very busy, they have always been absolutely thorough, respectful, and responsive.
    TC1: 1996, right orchiectomy, seminoma stage I 3.5 cm mass, radiation therapy (peri-aortic & pelvic 27.3 Gy)
TC2: 2008, left orchiectomy, seminoma stage IA 5 cm mass, left & right prostheses, AndroGel TRT, surveillance at MSKCC

My son used Sloan for a second opinion and had his RPLND done there. It's a world class facility in regards to both treatment and patient care.
Son Jason diagnosed 4/30/04, stage III. Right I/O 4/30/04. Graduated College 5/13/04. 4XEP 6/7/04 - 8/13/04. Full open RPLND 10/13/04. All Clear since.

Treated by Dr. Rakowski of Midland Park, NJ. Visited Sloan Kettering for protocol advice. RPLND done at Sloan Kettering.

My husband also consulted with Dr. Bosl and Dr. Scheinfeld at Sloan. They agreed with the recommendations of our local oncologist, who was working with Dr. Einhorn, so we pursued treatment in Chicago. But our experience at Sloan was very professional and positive. They definitely know what they are talking about, and are extremely thorough. You will be in good hands there.
