    Orchiectomy recovery

    Hi all,

Just a simple question here. Tomorrow marks 6 weeks since I had my left IO. Although I don't have any major pain I do still have tenderness around the base of my penis and along the left groin. Its not bad but pressing increases the pain. Been there since the op.

How long can this pain last for? I know its 6 weeks before you can lift things etc but I wanted to start running again tomorrow but worried it will aggravate the area. I did a fair amount of walking yesterday and felt a little achy in the eve.

Hope someone can share their experience.

    Hey Dave

I remember having exactly what you describe. I waited the full 6 weeks before I did any heavy lifting or running. I'm not sure exactly how long the pain lasted for but I know it went away before I started chemo which was 3 months after the I/O. I think it was just a gradual decrease each day and was only a strange sensation when I touched the area. I don't know why but in my mind if an area hurts when I touch it, I have to keep touching it to make sure it still hurts. Hope the pain goes aways soon for you.

All normal, Dave. You may even have a loss of sensation on the left side groin area as nerves were cut and this will gradually come back... took me quite a while but it's all good.

    Dave,
Sounds pretty normal to me, too. I don't think that some light running would be harmful, but take it down a notch to walking if the discomfort is intolerable. Bicycling might be a better option since the pounding of running might provide too much stress. I recall certain degrees of pain for 6-8 weeks, but mostly from the irritation of wearing belted slacks and sitting upright at my desk.
