What do you guys do about the taste?

Just wondering if anyone else going through (or has gone through) B.E.P. gets a HORRIBLE flavor in the back of their mouths?
I get the flavor while on my long weeks (where I get chemo for 5 days in a row). . .the easy weeks where I just go in for the bleo I don't get the flavor.

I've gotten pretty sick through this (after my second round), have vomited, and have gotten extremely exhausted. . .but nothing so far has been as bad to me as the flavor is. It's the thing I dislike most so far (and it destroys my ability to eat or drink anything).

2 things I've found that help are ice cream shakes, and chocolate milk lol, my nurse also told me that they have popsicles at the facility if I'd like to try one of those next week (next week is the start of round 3 for me).

I didn't find anything that took the taste away. Probably only time will do that. There were things I didn't enjoy eating of drinking during and soon after chemo - tea and coffee were among them. I ate lots of chicken pies and drank banana milkshakes.

Brian gave up coffee as well. He drank tea for a while, apple juice, Gatorade, and today it is grapefruit juice. I think it changes a lot because anything he eats or drinks eventually gets associated with sick feelings, and he can't have it anymore. Today he wanted a fried egg sandwich and Otter Pops

At one point, frozen fruit bars helped my husband a lot, to take away that taste. Good luck!

    What is an Otter Pop?

And my husband, too, found fruits - either drinks, or popsicles - to be something he a) could taste and b) helped with the metallic taste, at least a little (he described it as metallic).

    Good luck!

An otter pop is a popsicle only without the high fructose corn syrup and they come in "bar pouches" http://iwantpizza.files.wordpress.co...pg?w=480&h=360.

In my opinion the taste intensifies the nausea.

1, I FLEW through otter pops to numb my mouth =)
    2. Vanilla ice cream whenever I could handle it.
    3. peppermint gum.

The otter pops were the most important though... I'd say I ate roughly 350-400 over my 3 cycles (you can buy them in packs of 100) It helps most on days 6, 7, 8, and 9 =)

    hope that helps!

P.S. I responded to tangy tastes REALLY well. try that?

I had a lot of flavoured soda (probably not a good thing). I also had a frog in my throat that itched and drove me crazy! I also took a lot of soothers/throat lozanges (eucalyptus drowns it out).

For me the worst taste was the steroids, and the mag.

There's nothing you can do about the taste, just find foods that you can tolerate.....for me it was salt....lots of Mcdonalds and Burger King when I was on chemo....
