11 Months All Clear - So Calling it 1 Year Early

Latest CT scans came back all clear. Ultrasound of the survivor all good. Bloods are all good. So it's all only 11 months but since I don't have anything scheduled in December I'm calling it 1 Year All-Clear a month early.
    12.21.10 - Left I/O - AFP = 119
    1.7.11 - Pathology - 2 tumors. 1 mixed non-seminoma (75% immature teratoma, 10 % EC, 10 % Yolk sac & 5 % mature teratoma to balance it off) & 1 pure seminoma. No lvi found. Stage 1. AFP = 14
    11.21.11 - All-Clear
1.12.12 - All-Clear. Dropped 20 lbs since diagnosis. Dropped blood pressure, heart rate etc. Running 14 miles 3 times a week. Playing soccer competitively again. Feeling good

congrats, here's to more future all-clears. every year is a great milestone.
100% classical seminoma (I-A, RTI). Surveillance (no adjuvant therapy). 4 years all-clear and hoping for many more.

Considering the 80% of non-seminoma relapses occur within the 1st year, your milestone is HUGE. Congratulations.
    - early Apr/11: something is "wrong" in my righty
    - 16/Apr/11: ultrasound find a mass in it
    - 27/Apr/11: right I/O
    - 29/Apr/11: stadiation CT scan shows "all clear"
    - May/11: pathology: 1 cm Seminoma (90% necrotic), no RT/LV invasion
    - Surveillance....
    - March/13: relapse - para aortic node 1.7 cm, waiting for treatment...

On one of the many researchs I found on the internet when I spent literally HOURS looking for them every day during my diagnosis. I can search for the link if you are interested, but I'm pretty sure it was in italian. By the way it said that 80% of non-seminoma's relapses occur within the 1st year, 12% within the 2nd, 6% within the 3rd, and less than 2% after it.

It's safe to say that +90% of the non-seminoma relapses and 70% of the seminomas occur in the first 2 years.

Hey Nut, I've seen similar #s. My oncologist said that while a year is big he really wants to get me through 2 years before we even start talking about it in a past tense with reduced recurrence %s. I think that's smart. Just need a little patience. For me I no longer worry before the scans or bloods, it's just part of the routine now.

& Val, yes these will be easier holidays. Last year at Thanksgiving I knew something was wrong and even though the interwebs had told me TC I was still too tough or maybe chicken to see a doctor about it. As for Christmas last year well it wasn't all bad but I write that up to being well sedated with percocets and Heineken's after my I/O

Your oncologist speaks the truth and you're correct in being vigilant for the next years, I just tried to cheer you up even more with some encouraging statistics

It's also great that you no longer worry before the scans/bloods, I'm a few steps behind in this matter and I hope it'll be the same for me ASAP

Congrats on the good news! I'd say 11 months is good enough to call a year.

Nut of Mordor, I hope you're right on the stats. I've avoided looking. My son is up for his 11 month check on December 12 and it includes CT scan, etc. If all is well, then I'll call it a year too and maybe get a good night's sleep????
    Best,
