How accurate is a chest xray compared to a CT?

All you TC experts out there,

I had my chest x-ray done last week, and today my Oncologist received the results. He said that the x-ray was "all clear." Ever since the start of chemo, I have had an 8mm mass in my lower lobe of my left lung . It really didn't change much during the first two rounds. (My last CT scan performed 1 month ago showed that it has 'nominally decreased in size, approximately 0.5mm').

My question is this: How easy is it to see a 7mm nodule/mass on an x-ray? I know a CT scan is much more accurate, but is a nodule of my size even visible on an x-ray?

I don't want to get my hopes up just quite yet, but I just started my last round today, I want this b*tch gone!

Thank you for all your suggestions, comments, opinions, and prayers you have all sent my way. It's greatly appreciated!

    -Justin

i have a very similar situation, they haven't given me a CT scan since before treatment, and then they gave me a chest x-ray and said my lung tumors had shrunk, but by like a few millimeters so I wondered the same thing. sorry this isn't really an answer so much as it is a continuation of your question

chest x-rays are accurate down to about 1cm. You might be able to pickup something smaller than that, but it's going to be highly radiologist dependent. ie you'd need quite a skilled radiologist to be able to accurately pickup something smaller than that.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I did quite a few different angles and sides, so I'm hoping they got a few good lucks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
