    Could this be an infection?

My husband had a left orchiectomy 6 months ago to remove a tumor. Pathology was non seminoma 30% EC, 10-15% yolk sac and 2% choriocarcinoma and teratoma confined to the testes but with lymph vasicular invasion.

Here is his story - he was suffering from pain in the left testicle combined with burning while urinating. He was treated with antibiotics which seemed to do the trick however 2 weeks later he found the lump went to the hospital where they performed an ultrasound, did blood work where he had elevated tumour markings and within 4 days he had the orchiectomy.

We opted to go on surveillance and so far all blood work, chest x-rays and CT scans have been clear. His last CT scan was a month and a half ago and blood work was 2 weeks ago and all good. However a few days ago he started getting some discomfort in what he thought was his remaining testicle and burning during urination. Upon further investigation he noticed that there is a cord on his left side (where the testicle was removed) that is very sore and tender. He went to the oncologist office today and they took a urine sample for infection but when they did the dip test in the urine it came back fine. They did send it to the lab for further evaluation just in case.

HAs anyone out there experienced this before with the pain in the removed side? We are nervous for a relapse as this was the same sensation he had the first time.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like a combination of things. I would be persistent about talking them over with a urologist. The burning while urinating might be an infection or maybe a stone. The cord is very unusual. Many guys have roundish things called hematomas, which are blood clots from surgical leakage that eventuall dissolve. The aching contralateral (the other one) could be caused by increased activity to make up testosterone production. My aching peaked about 6 months post-I/O so badly I insisted on another ultrasound, which found nothing unusual.
