Had orchiectomy for fast growing seminoma & have swollen inguinal lymph node

On May 29th I found that my right testicle was enlarged about 1 ½ times larger than the left testicle. By lunch it was about 2 times larger. I went to the hospital, had an ultrasound and then saw my urologist the next day. By May 31st it was even larger but then didn’t change much before I had an orchiectomy on June 1st. My 3 blood tests showed normal marker levels. So my urologist said he suspected seminoma. I had read online that it normally took a week to a month for this type of tumor to double in size. He said that there may have been bleeding into the tumor. On June 5th I noticed at the top of my right leg near the groin area I had a lump about 1 cm diameter, which from reading online I believe is a swollen inguinal lymph node. Jun 15th I had a sore throat and saw my family doctor on June 21st as it is not painful but it now feels like I have a lump in my throat whenever I swallow. I am to see him if it is not gone in a week. June 22nd I saw my urologist for the pathology report, which lists classical seminoma staging as pT1 pNX. The greatest dimension of tumor was 6 cm. It was confined to testis with the spermatic cord uninvolved by tumor. It says the microscopic tumor extension as rete testis and lymph-vascular invasion as absent. He was not concerned about the swollen inguinal lymph node. He said 6 cm is the borderline for whether or not they recommend radiation even if the upcoming CT scan is clear. Hopefully my scan will be clear and I then may opt for surveillance or ask my urologist about 1 treatment of carboplatin. I am still concerned about how quickly the tumor grew and the swollen inguinal lymph node. This forum has been a great source of information and so I thought I would share my experience.

Welcome, D. I experienced testicular hemorrhaging. That swelling can definitely grow faster than most tumors. Keep us posted as you move forward.

right inguinal orchiectomy 6/5/2003 > nonseminoma, stage I > surveillance > L-RPLND 6/24/2005 for recurrence, suspected teratoma but found seminoma, stage II > chylous ascites until 9/2005 > surveillance and "all clear" since

Your TC sounds a lot like what I had happening. Not to scare you but to inform you that your CT scan may tell you more than stage I. I was stage one with pure semi and had one double dose of carboplatin. I went back to work excatly one month and went back to my Onco and had another CT scan. My lymh nodes had in fact continued to grow. The groin was my concern because I could see and feel the nodes were larger than they should have been. Anyways, I am starting my 2nd cycle of 3xBEP tommorrow at the Mayo clinic here in Jax, FL.
I always say hope for the best but prepare for the worst. What you are going through is like a roller coaster ride of highs and lows. So keep your chin up and your head down. Look at the bigger picture, whether it is truly stage 1 which I hope it is. But if its stage 2 and you do have to go the BEP route at least you will be mentally prepared for it. In my case I prepared for the chemo by doing a major lifestyle change. I got with a Diet specialist and now I am eating really really healthly. Knock on wood I have not been sick from chemo yet. I have only had a headache from time to time and my energy level been lower than usual. My hair has started to fall out, but as far as the blood work goes, the only thing that took a hit was my platellete count.
Good eating and proper treatment will have you up and running in no time. I hope that you CT scan comes back clean. At the very least you will know what to expect if you ever have to go thru BEP and not knowing is the scary part of TC.

I finally received a date for my CT scan of Friday July 13th, which is 7 weeks post surgery. I was ready to switch hospitals if they didn't book it soon.
