Hi,
My husband was diagnosed with TC last week and had a orchiectomy yesterday. There was spreading into the abdomen so he will need to start chemo in 4-5 weeks. It is overwhelming but we are taking it one day at a time. The most important thing is that my husband comes through this okay and his prognosis is very good. We had planned on having a child soon and want to know what the options are for sperm banking before chemo. Has anyone gone through this? We're meeting with an oncologist tomorrow to discuss treatment. I am trying to be positive and supportive to my husband but am struggling with the fact we may not have another child. We have one beautiful daughter God has already blessed us with but we wanted to have another. I've read that 1 in 3 men become infertile due to chemo.
I appreciate any advice or experiences you can share.

I am just completing treatment and went to a sperm bank beforehand. It was relatively easy. The banking is a back up plan just in case and it's nice to have that piece of mind. I went 2 separate times before I started treatment.

4/3/12 - Right I/O(HCG 5225 - AFP 51.2)
4/11/12 - non-seminoma stage 1s (good prognosis). embryonal carcinoma 90%; yolk sac tumor 5%; choriocarcinoma 5%
4/20/12 - HCG 345 - AFP 7.6
5/14/12 - Start date for 3xBEP
7/17/12 - Done with 3xBEP
8/6/12 - Officially on surveillance. CT scan clear - HCG <2 - AFP 2.6

There are options for sperm banking. He should just try to go soon and as many times as possible. The urologist you probably originally saw and/or your oncologist may have more information for you.

Thank you everyone for this information. It's made me feel a lot more positive that we can bank sperm and keep having future children as a possiblity. This has lifted my spirits and is helping me remain strong for my husband which is the most important thing right now. You men are all so strong - my husband included.
