Any experience with Gem/Ox good or bad?

Pj started Gem/Ox but was only able to receive one cycle because his platelets have been too low to get another round. His AFP is up to 152 now. This is his 4 th try at chemo, his last being HDC and he needed multiple units of platelets during that treatment. I'm looking for some input on this treatment since its not given as commonly as what he has had before. Thanks for any input.

You might try contacting Dr Soff at MSK about an mplates(?)shot. It's a once weekly shot, it takes about three weeks to really kick in. We saw results in two though. Michael was getting shots once a week. It raised them enough to have surgery.
Ask your onc. maybe he's heard about it.

    Liz,

Nothing to add, but thinking of you! Hope PJ's counts turn around and he can get a second round. Did Feldman talk about a chemo alternate plan in case of counts not recovering?

No talk of an alternate plan as of yet. I'm hoping his number rises on his own by Monday so he can have his treatment. I was surprised it was that low after one round on 7/2. The HDC took a toll on him. I wasn't with him at the appointment or I would have a lot more answers. I'm the interrogator! Pj just sits there and nods and his Dad tries to listen but is overwhelmed most of the time. It's usually a one on one conversation with me and Feldman. Pj thinks we speak a different language. I guess we do in a way.
