    Questions re: my son

My son is 12 and at age 4 had surgery to correct an undescended testicle. We were reading about an athlete with TC so I told him it is time that I give him the heads up that he is at higher risk and needs to watch for lumps as he gets older. He then told me he has a lump that he noticed in March. He said it was somewhat painful at first but the pain lessened over time. He then went and checked it again and it has reduced in size.
I know 12 is young to worry about TC but with history of undescended T I was all set to call dr. however, now that it has reduced in size what would you recommend?

It's a shame that the undescended testicle increases the risk so it's good that you're tuned into that. It's also good that your son feels he can be open with you about issues having to do with private parts. Most kids aren't. Since he's approaching puberty, it's probably a good idea to arrange for a complete physical exam. With the UT history, it's also a good idea to see if his doctor can order annual ultrasounds. That's the only reliable way to detect a possibly malignant solid mass versus a variety of benign things that can crop up. Hopefully the lump he found turns out to be nothing.

Good luck and let us know how it goes,
    Paul

I'd probably get it checked, especially if it's on the testicle that did not decend normally.
