We're very happy to see that Jake and team mate Sean Rosenthal have made it to the quarterfinals. Go Team! Jake is the second US olympian TC survivor that I know about.
The other is Eric Shanteau on the men's swim team. Eric was diagnosed shortly beofre the 2008 Bejing Olympics and decide to delay his I/O until afterward. That decision was very controversial at the time, but it was made in consultation with TC specialists. Eric has been doing just great, has been a spokesman for awareness, and is competeing in London 2012. I believe Eric was awarded Gold this year as part of the 4x100 medley relay.
Statiscally, I'm sure there are many more olympians, men and women, who have battled cancer. If that is the case, many decide to keep it private. For those whose battles have been made public, it becomes almost impossible to find a story about them without mention of cancer. Do Jake and Eric and Lance Armstrong want a cancer tag to follow them around forever? I don't know.
All Survivors Rock!
