has anyone ever had keyhole surgery?

Surgeon told hubby very unlikely to find cancer as he had 100% chorio. He has been hcg free for 4 months now. What r the thoughts on keyhole for low risk? Mass didnt skrink after tip and it went from 8cm to 2.8 after bep. Surgeon said this is tiny. Only 2 enlarged nodes
March 2011- Husband, Stephen diagnosed with advanced germ cell cancer (100% chriocarcinoma), started 7cm in ab, spots in lungs and in the brain. HCG over 200,000
    March 2011- June 2011- 5x BEP = HCG 3
July 2011- 19 of high dose whole brain radiation=HCG <1
Sept- MRI shows all tumors from the brain have gone
    Relapse early jan 2012 - hcg 69
    feb 2012- hcg over 100
    Right I/O
Hcg going up and down 450
Started 4x TIP , hcg dropped to normal in first week

My understanding is that L-RPLND is considered a better tool for removing known, targeted masses like this than it is as a general diagnostic and curative procedure, where open RPLND is still preferred.

I had a laparoscopic hernia repair and the recovery was amazingly quick; 2 weeks later it was like nothing had happened.

    Hi Kristie,

My understanding is that anything over 1cm is considered suspicious, whether there is HCG present or not. The fact that your doc considers a 2.8cm node to be "tiny" and "very unlikely to be cancer" is confusing at best.

I would suggest contacting Dr. Einhorn about your husband's case - you don't want to mess around with chorio and he's the expert.

All the best to you both.
Husband Shaun diagnosed March 2010. AFP 4571, HCG 3340.
    6cm x 6cm x 8cm retroperitoneal mass + 1cm nodule in right lung.
    Stage IIIb, Intermediate Risk.
    Left I/O March 9/10: 75% EC, 20% Teratoma, 5% Yolk Sac + Seminoma.
    3xBEP + 1xEP March 15 - May 21/10: markers normal.
    Bilateral RPLND July 28/10: 9.5 x 7 x 4.5cm mass, teratoma only.
    Chylous Ascites Aug/Sep.
    November 2012 All Clear
Continuously monitoring 0.9 x 1.7cm omental nodule (possible fat necrosis)

Thanks for that. I am pretty sure i read somewhere that chorio has a lesser chance of containing teratoma. And the fact that my hubby had a amazing reponse to bep and it stayed away 5 months and came back but with tip it went down on first week. Another dr said some lymph nodes never go back to normal.
