    Just engaged

Hello I am new member , my name is Karla and I am 23 , I am from Mexico but I live in Texas, my boyfriend (Enrike 35) and I just got engaged on December 25, we have been togeher for 9 months so far, and just after our first valentines together, he was diagnosed with TC,,we were so scared, I could not believe it, one day we were celebrating our engagement and the next day we were at the hospital doing all types of CTs and blood tests, It's been the worst experience I've ever experienced, just watching him being so scared, but I had to be strong. I became an expert on the topic doing all types of reserach on the internet and all, but my stress was at the top, I suffer from Occipital Neuralgia (a type of migraine that last weeks or even months that can be caused by stress) , and I was in pain too, but just because I was so worry for my boyfriend, he is the love of my life. He was diagnosed with Satge I seminoma and a month after his surgery he started radiation therapy, the first week he felt a lot of nausea, and right now everything looks better, he just finished his radiation a month ago, and he is now feeling much better, of course he still needs to do all type of check ups and all,,, now I feel much better but, I cannot stop thinking what would happen if the cancer comes back, I don't want to think about going through the same feeling again, I love him so much.... I just wanted to share this because it makes me feel better,,, and I know Iam not the one with TC but I am his future wife so everything that happens to him happens to me

    Karla:
Welcome to our family. My son had cancer and as a co-survivor I understand how difficult it is to watch our loved ones fight for their lives. Now that Enrike has finished his treatments successfully the chances that he will get this again are very small, just make sure he doesn't miss any doctors appointments. If it should come back and it's caught early he will be cured again. Do you have a date yet for your wedding?

Welcome, Karla! As the Lance Armstrong Foundation's manifesto says, "Cancer may leave your body, but it never leaves your life." Fortunately, being part of the survivorship community helps to make up for that.

Karla, if you haven't started making your wedding plans, start now!! Be positive. You have gone through the hard part and even though I am not one for statistics, you have them on your side. My son was engaged with the date set when he was diagnosed, the doctor told him to go forward with his life and not to let cancer stop him. Three months later he was through with his surgery and treatments and three months after that he was married. He considers himself "lucky" that he had a disease that could be treated and cured. Best of luck to you and keep posting. Sometimes when the crisis is over we fall apart. We all need support. Dianne

Thank you all for your replies,,, we don't actually have a wedding date yet, because with all this, we left the weeding on second terms,, but we do have a wedding date for the church that's all we could do before he was diagnosed, and actually we have a pre-marriage retreat tomorrow, I am very excited for the wedding but we need to save a little bit of money too, but believe me, as long as he is in good health, I don't care about the wedding, I just thank God everyday that he is doing better ...
    Thank You!!
