    Fungus and Cancer?

Hey, I just saw this on the internet and kind of caught my curiosity. I apologize if this isn't the right place to post. Any way has anyone heard of Doug Kaufmann and what he is trying argue? He seemed to make some sense, but was curious to see what some of the scientists thought :-)

I only saw the two clips about the cancer.

Also if this needs to be moved to a different spot please do so, I wasn't sure

    Hey Adam,

I'm generally very skeptical about these folks and their claims. I can't watch the clips from work, so I haven't seen them, but in looking at the website, it seem everyone is promoting their "amazing product". I try to keep an open mind, but double-blind testing and clinical trials are an important part of validating the effectiveness and safety of any "medication". Many of these folks rely on anecdotal evidence or a few people who claim to have been helped. Then they tell you that modern medicine doesn't want you to know about these remedies. Like I said, I try to keep an open mind, and I do use some herbal supplements, but I also spent a bit of time researching the ones I take and specifically looking for controlled experiments that tested their effects.

Ultimately, I guess that's my opinion, people need to do some research and if the only source of info are the folks who are selling these products, I'd procede with caution.

    My 2 cents.

Thanks Fish! I kind of thought that too, but it just caught my attention.
A better website that was linked on there was http://www.curenaturalicancro.com/ca...erapy-faq.html or just some of the information on there. I was just surprised because I had never heard of something like that and seemed to be more information than what I would have guessed on it. Let me know if you read that and what you think Fish!

    Adam,
    Again, I'm doubtful.

    GEEK ALERT!
Bicarbonate is one of the primary buffers controlling blood/tissue pH. Acid/base balance in the body is ultimately maintained by the lungs and kidneys. The following reaction can occur in both directions and is catalyzed by an enzyme called carbonic anhydrase:

    CO2 + H20 to H2CO3 to H+ + HCO3-

carbon dioxide + water yeilds carbonic acid yeilds hydrogen ion + bicarbonate ion

These are usually in equilibrium. Now if you infuse bicarbonate it will drive the reaction in the reverse direction to maintain equilibrium, so you get water (excreted by kidneys) and CO2 (eliminated by lungs).

Various forms of carbonic anhydrase are widely distributed in cells throughout the body and this enzyme rapidly drives the equation to equilibrium, so I find it hard to believe that significant levels of bicarbonate could be maintained. A massive infusion of bicarbonate, enough to alter blood/tissue pH could be dangerous.

Also this entire treatment is based upon the premise that cancer is caused by fungal infections, and that killing the fungus will cure the cancer. Some fungi produce mycotoxins - Aspergillus, Fusarium and Penicilium. Aflatoxins form Aspergillus have been shown to cause cancer. However once a cell has transformed, removing the trigger will not necessarily cause the cell to revert to normal.

I don't mean to go on and on about this, but sometimes a critical examination of basic biology can be helpful in evaluating unorthodox treatments. Again, I noticed that this doctor has been "crossed by official authorities"

    Ok enough said
