Lymphovascular invasion (LVI) means that cancer cells were seen under a microscope in the tubes leading from the testicle to the rest of the body. Lympho- refers to the ducts leading to lymph nodes in the abdomen. Vascular means the arteries and veins. All these tubes are bundled in the spermatic cord, which would have been removed as part of the orchiectomy.

Many of us had LVI, including me. It means that the risk of cancer cell spread is a little higher, but it doesn't automatically mean that the cancer has or will spread.

Does this help?

PS: I just read the message on your personal profile page. The pT2 includes/means LVI, so hubby is seminoma stage IB, the same as me.

Hi 2bigboysmom.

Sorry you needed to find us, but welcome to the forum. You've found a good place for support and information.

When a pathologist looks at a removed testicle, (s)he checks if any cancer cells are present in the blood vessels or lymphatic vessels. If so, it is called lymphovascular invasion. If lymphovascular invasion is found, it is associated with an increased likelihood that the cancer will have spread (although it is by no means certain that it will have).

Could you tell us some more about the situation? Is the patient your son? Do you know what cell type he has? Has he had bloods taken?

We'll do all we can to support you through what you are going through.

EDIT: Apologies that this post repeat much of what Paul said - he types faster than me!
