I am stoked that Steven has the fire under his belly and is ready to have that mass obliterated. The call from Einhorn must have been great to receive, and it certainly provides a boost of confidence. I'll be thinking about you guys today.

Not too many docs would do what Dr. E. just did. The man tells it like it is. Steven will beat this dark passenger back to hell!!

What a heartbreak it will be to the testicular cancer world when Dr Einhorn passes away or actually retires. That man holds and respects the hopes and dreams of boys/men all over the world with testicular cancer. Not to mention their wives, mothers, and fathers. He's done more for our niche group of people than any other being. Yet, he continues to be only hours away from anyone by e-mail. Bearing the responsibility of all that like he does is amazing. I have so much respect for Dr. Einhorn.

It must be such a relief to hear such a positive assessment from the man who really knows. The cyberknife should see it off for good.

Wow, that's just remarkable. I know I would be elated after getting a call like that. I can't think of any doctors who, as sadly in demand as they are, even approach the level of personal contact and warmth of Dr. Einhorn. I can only hope every cancer has such an icon as he is in the world of TC. And I often think of what Sean put in words: I hope through working with him, there are many doctors specializing in TC out there who can pick up the slack the day he retires from the field.

love Dr. Einhorn
We feel the same way. We owe him my husbands life. Everytime we see him he always asks how our daughter is (she was born while he was going through treatment). Also when my husband was hospitalized recently he came to see him even though he was not on call or even there that day. God created a very special person and doctor in Dr. Einhorn. I agree, I hope there is someone there to pick up the slack when he dies. The TC world will be at a lost without him. He is so humble too. He is so amazing yet he acts like he has no idea how intelligent and wonderful he is. We trust him with my husbands life.

Again, thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers. We went to the cancer center today and got a tour of the Cyberknife before they took Steven in for his surgery. That is one amazing piece of medical equipment. Anyway, the procedure went off without a hitch and Steven said he did not feel a thing. I could not see any mark or redness anywhere on his head afterward. We are scheduled for the second round tomorrow at 12:45 pm.
You know, Sean made me think alot about the fact that one day Dr. Einhorn may retire. What a loss to the cancer community that would be. Let's just hope that Dr. Einhorn will practice till his 100th birthday and then, when he retires, he could consult doctors that haven't even been born yet. |

How wonderful it is that a man as busy as Einhorn takes the time to call and reassure Steven. I also got teary just reading about it. I can only imagine what it meant to Steven and the rest of your family. Prayers continue on this end and anxiously awaiting your updates. Please tell Steven that all of us here in Indiana are thinking of him.

Hey, glad the procedure went smooth! The second one will as well, and then he can get back to regular life, and the police academy! Dr. Einhorn is incredible, and has one heck of a presence. His timely e-mails are mind boggling. He's a stud.

I second that!
I tried once to email my husbands oncologist with a question that I didn't want to bother him over the phone about and he gave me this long speach about it being against the rules to email patients and their families so I tried to call him and his assistant would not put me through. I emailed Dr. Einhorn on so many occations as I did not trust my husbands oncologist, but my husband did, so I would email Dr. Einhorn to check that the treatment was correct and he would email me back no questions asked that same day. If he couldn't, his lovely assistant would. Amazing, amazing people.

Hey Cheryl, thanks for asking about Steven. I am sorry I have been remiss about posting but I was saddened by all the bad news going on. Steven's good friend, Robert, that he met in Indiana passed away and, of course, Sean. It's been a little overwhelming to Steven as well.
Steven finished his last round of 2XEP on June 25th. During those rounds he was admitted once to the hospital for four days due to fever. So far he has held up pretty well since completion except for mouth sores and neuropathy to his feet. His last tumor marker check came back normal and that was only two weeks ago. We go to the doctor on July 7th for a brain MRI. This will be the first time we'll see how effective the Cyberknife surgery was on the tumor. Obviously, Steven is worried about the existing tumor and if there is any new activity. Steven remains in good spirits and seems to be improving both, physically and mentally, each passing day. I feel very hopeful about the absence of visible cancer in his body coupled with the normal tumor markers. I still can't help but believe that this may have been just a rogue cancer cell in his brain that the HDC kept at bay temporarily. I will let everyone know how the MRI turns out. Please continue sending good thoughts and prayers to Steven. Happy Independance Day. Larry |

Larry,
I completely understand that things get overwhelming and you need a break from bad news. I'm thrilled to hear that Steven's tumor markers were normal. Extra prayers will be coming Steven's way for a good report on the MRI. Hope you also had a good July 4th. Today is Steve's 29th birthday so we had a little family get together tonight. Please keep us posted and we will keep you all in our prayers. Cheryl

Steven's visit with the Neurologist today was good news. He said that the tumor has disolved very well and there is only a small "sliver" left. This could be either scar tissue or remnants of the still deteriorating tumor. Also, there was no sign of any other tumors in the brain. All things being equal, this was about the best news we could have gotten at this point. Will not see the Neuro again until October 7. Steven is recovering from chemo and mouth sores are almost gone. No fever during second round. He has only missed two days of the police academy and one was the day he was rediagnosed. He's a strong and brave young man. Thanks for the continued thoughts and prayers.
