Recurrence statistics

Hello all
I wonder if one of the many knowledgeable moderators could chime in?
We were given statistics of about 85% cure with surveillance and about 96% cure with carboplatin at our oncology consultation. I'm a bit worried this is overly optimistic given that there are two independent risk factors for recurence here. I'll post the details now.
Classic seminoma confined to testis. Invasion of rete testis. Lymphatic invasion. no vascular invasion Maximum size 3cm.
CT normal markers normal pre and post op.
Three weeks into one cycle carboplatin.
Perhaps you can help as relatives and friends keep asking.

Chris,
I am also seminoma stage IB due to two unfavorable factors: vascular invasion and a large tumor (>4 cm). With your lymphatic and rete testis invasion, your cure rate from the I/O alone is (or was) less than 85%, possibly as low as 70%. One round of carbo increases that to 93-95% and two gets you to 96-97%, depending on the study. We posted several studies in the Research Library, although you may have to tunnel into the Archives to find the larger studies. On the small chance you do relapse and need a full routine of chemo, your long-term survival rate is virtually 100%. My oncologist at Dana Farber Cancer Institute put it bluntly: "Guys don't die from Stage I seminoma".
